Result
You will receive a letter with the result within ten working days. The following results are possible:
- No follow-up consultation is needed
No blood has been found in your stool. If you are still below 76 years of age in two years, you will receive an invitation for a further health screening. - Follow-up consultation is needed
Blood has been found in your stool. Blood in your stool could be a result of polyps or bowel cancer. There could also be other causes. That is why a follow-up consultation is needed. A hospital will investigate the cause.
The result letter contains an appointment for an admission appointment at the hospital. During that appointment you will be given an explanation about a colonoscopy of your large intestine. You can find more information about colonoscopies on www.bevolkingsonderzoekdarmkanker.nl
Your GP will not automatically receive your results. At your request, we will inform the GP if blood is found in your stool. If you want this, you must inform us of your GP’s details. You can do this via My Health Screening, or contact our information line.
No result obtained
It is also possible that no result is obtained. There can be different reasons for this. You will then receive a request to carry out the stool test again.
More information about the results can be found on the RIVM website.
